The Program
*One on One capacity building programs and Core support will be developed with a focus on the individuals needs and goals. A participant relationship will be built in a familiar environment with activities and supports to work on goals and achievements. Once the participant and Support worker build trust and understanding the aim will be to venture out to undertake activities in the community.Once a rapport has been developed and a level of community behavior is secure we will then move into additional options to undertake social skills. The participant may like to be introduced to other participants that are assessed as suitable and a group activity could be developed.
*The participant may have been assessed by a health professional and is requiring support to develop goals and targets. The delivery style for this particular type of support will involve working with the health professional and participant. A program will be individually developed to ensure weekly activities or tasks are undertaken with the participant, and progress reports are delivered back to the health professional.
Benefits for the participant.
This program can offer families, parent and carers a one on one service for their children who may struggle to build friendships and would like to undertake activities within the community with someone that appears more like a friend or sibling and does not appear like a chaperon /supervisor /carer which can make the child feel embarrassed. The program will be built around the participants needs and adapted to suit the participants interests. We will take the time to focus on the child/teenager interests. This builds social skills communication skills, confidence and independence. The participant may want to go to the cinema and requires a support worker with them – but does not want to feel like they have a ‘carer’ looking after them. Instead they could attend with someone that appears age appropriate to limit the uncomfortable feeling of not being independant.** This program is aimed at any child or teenager with disabilities. Suitable program assessment will be determined for each participant to ensure this is the most suitable option for the child/teenager.
Benefits for parents, family and carers.

Great opportunity for participants to engage with this program and also great opportunities for parents and carers to get a well deserved break for 2 to 3 hours. Maybe you would like a romantic evening out, or you would like to go for an exercise class, or a walk along the river, or time to spend with other children that might value some attention as they are usually very self-sufficient due to their siblings needs. This program maybe the perfect opportunity to just have some time each week, or fortnight to have a break and have the confidence that you have a competent carer to help you with your most precious asset, providing vital skills to build capacity for your child.
